Reflections

Guiding the player - Since the inspiration for Halite was A Link to The Past we wanted to have a similar feeling of the world being open. The issue was that the player could easily become lost, our solutions for this were a couple of things. Defining a main path which the player could navigate to in needs of allocating themselves. We lead the player with enemy placement, since enemies move, they tend to draw the players attention and with that we could lead the player in the right direction.

Killing your darlings - In this project we struggled to keep it below 30 minutes game time, in order to remedy the situation we removed a level to cut down game time. In place of the level, we expanded a small section of the previous level and added a side objective containing a power up for the player in the area. Finding a good balance by removing things you have already made is a valuable asset to have if it means the end product is improved.
